- Many people mistakenly believe the royal family forced Meghan Markle and Prince Harry out.
- With Prince Charles’ blessing, Meghan and Harry could have helped reshape the monarchy.
- They walked away instead.
While her defenders dishonestly miscast Meghan Markle as a royal outcast, she and Prince Harry allegedly passed up the chance to help the monarchy reinvent itself.
Royal author Nigel Cawthorne told the Daily Mail:
[Prince Charles] was delighted with Meghan and, undoubtedly, would have continued to draw the Sussexes in more and more and would have tried to expand their role within the Firm as much as could be expected.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could have been far more influential than they ever will be on their own
Cawthorne’s assessment certainly throws new light on Meghan and Harry’s decision to leave Britain behind.
If Prince Charles was truly “delighted” with Meghan Markle, then it’s inconceivable that she was “forced” out of The Firm. Instead, it seems she and Prince Harry could have been influential figures within the royal family.
As much as the “Hollywood Royals” talk about their charity work and how much they love helping others, it raises an unavoidable question. Why couldn’t they have pursued that mission as members of the royal family?
Meghan and Harry could easily have launched their charitable endeavors under The Firm’s umbrella.
If they’d played it smart, they could have enjoyed the lifestyle they are accustomed to, with regular holidays and extended trips overseas, all while spending royal money.
So why didn’t they?
Because we all know the reason the couple left wasn’t that they were driven out or because they were being held back by royal restrictions.
It was because Meghan Markle believed she could earn a lot of money with her new royal title. She wanted to chase the Hollywood dream. Even if it was always going to be a long-shot.
She and Harry could live to regret that decision.
Prince Charles plans to reinvent the royal family – with or without the Sussex royals
It’s no secret that Prince Charles favors a smaller, leaner monarchy that takes its lead from the more “modern” European royals.
The Prince hoped that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would be at the forefront of the new-look royal family.
Plans change, though. The monarchy’s reinvention is still moving forward, albeit without two of its most visible figureheads.
As royal commentator Duncan Larcombe said during an interview with True Royalty TV, that puts an even bigger focus on remaining members of The Firm:
Despite all the noise around Harry and Meghan, the reality is William and Kate have got a pretty important job to do. This is giving them space, and to some extent, the Prince Andrew ongoing Epstein saga, it is giving William and Kate the space to focus on the job they’ve got to do. And I think at the moment, they are doing very well.
For Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, it’s a case of what could have been.
They made their decision. They’ll likely find that was easier than living with the consequences.
